Customized Training
We adapt our training to your dog's level of maturity, talent and how fast he or she generally tends to learn.
Workouts
Individual private sessions with you and your dog. This option works very well for those owners with the inclination and time to train their own dog.
Boarding and Training Includes

2008 - 2009 Rates
- Board and Train - $600/month
- Private Lessons - $40

- Competition Handling Fee - $60
Advance payment for first month is required with monthly billing thereafter.
Dogs who are boarded or trained must be current on all vaccines including Kennel Cough.
Proof of vaccination is requred. Monthly heartworm medication is recommended, at owner's expense.

TRAINING
Gundog Training
Conserve Game -- Hunt with a Trained Retriever
Basic training requires about 3 months or longer depending on your dog's temperment and previous experience. Training is customized to each dog and its owners' needs.
Your dog will learn to:
- Understand all basic obedience commands
- Be reasonably steady to wing and shot
- Be well-mannered in the duck blind
- Retrieve all types of game birds on land and from the water
- Deliver all birds to hand
- Quarter in the field within gun range
You are encouraged to "train" with your retriever during the last two months of training so that you can develop your handling skills and reinforce obedience commands in the field.

Competition Training
Experience Counts - Together, Tom and Katie have over 40 years of experience in training and handling competition retrievers.

The opportunity for winter training is especially attractive to Northwest residents who want their competition dogs to be ready for the hunt test season. Backwater Retreat, in the central valley of California, comprises over 600 acres of prime hunting habitat and ponds designed specifically for dog training. We head south at the end of duck season.

All-Breed Obedience Training
Every dog's primary job is to be a well-behaved member of the family. We teach what we call "House Manners Obedience" which includes:
- Waiting at doors
- Sitting on command
- Walking politely on lead
- Coming when called
- Not jumping up (on counters or guests!)
We can also help with common behavior problems such as chewing.
We offer Private Obedience Lessons or Board & Train and will teach you as well as your dog. We have experience with dogs of all shapes and sizes, pure-bred or mixed breed.
